Tough guys for tough boys! - Paper chains in hero design

Cowboy, Indian, pirate or Superman, these cool guys are a great decoration for your bedroom. All you need is a little imagination and a few sheets of coloured paper. Then a simple paper chain turns into a great eye catcher.

  • craft paper, various colours
  • Pritt Magic Stick
  • Pritt PVA Craft Glue
  • string

  • pencil
  • plate, approx. 13 cm diameter
  • felt tip pens
  • scissors

For parents/adults:

This craft idea is a great activity for a children's party. However, you should prepare the individual parts for the figures so that the children only have to stick the parts together.

Step 1

First cut out a 32x13 cm rectangle from craft paper. Fold it in the middle and lay it with the fold at the top on the work surface. Then place a small plate on the folded paper. The edge of the plate should be touching the bottom edge of the paper. Draw around the plate.

Step 2

Keep the paper folded and cut along the outline of the semi-circle. Then make more of these round "heads" out of craft paper. The more you make, the longer the paper chain will be.

Step 3

Now you have to design the faces. They are going to become cowboys, Indians, pirates or superheroes. Print out the templates and trace them onto craft paper. Cut them out and stick them on the heads with glue stick.

Step 4

Finally, draw on the eyes, nose and mouth. Don't forget to give the pirate a little moustache. The cowboy's face can even have a few scars and there should be a few hairs sticking out from under his hat. And of course the Indian has warpaints on. Use your imagination to decide how they should look.

Step 5

Then all you need to do is unfold the heads and spread a little craft glue on the inside fold. Then place them all over a long string. Leave the glue to dry and then you can hang your paper chain up. Don't your tough guys look great?

Tips and tricks

The eyes of your goodies and baddies look more real if you draw a little white dot in the middle of the iris.
